IPS, VA or OLED? Choosing a gaming monitor panel
Contrast, usage and static desktop content: the key differences when choosing a panel type.
Published 1 October 2026 · Source-based comparison
Panel type narrows down the characteristics but does not choose the best monitor for you. Long hours with a static desktop and evening gaming are different starting points.

LCD models are not all alike
IPS and VA are different LCD technologies. Colour, response times and backlight uniformity vary between products. One good or bad model does not establish the quality of an entire panel category.
OLED requires you to consider your usage
Static menus and toolbars make the manufacturer's protection features and warranty conditions relevant. Read the guidance and check any burn-in coverage. We do not promise risk-free use or predict service life.
Check text, reflections and brightness
Look at the monitor under lighting like that in your room. A gaming video in the dark does not represent a bright day of remote work. If you read a lot of text, check character edges at your normal viewing distance and operating system scaling settings.
Three checks before buying
- Compare specific monitor models.
- Check reflections and text clarity.
- Read the warranty terms and panel-protection guidance.
Frequently asked questions
Does OLED automatically make a better work monitor?
No. Your work, lighting, text and static content change the choice.
Is an HDR label enough?
No. Assess HDR implementation and brightness for each model.
