QUICK ANSWER

The G305 is enough if you use a receiver with one computer. The G309's main practical addition is Bluetooth if you switch between devices.

Decide on the connection first

If your laptop has few USB ports, Bluetooth can free one up. When gaming, you can use the G309's LIGHTSPEED receiver. The G305 has no Bluetooth option, so you need a place for its receiver when travelling too.

A replaceable battery is not the same as built-in charging

Both normally run on an AA battery. Include a rechargeable AA battery and charger in your budget if needed. The G309's POWERPLAY is a separate system; it does not mean the mouse charges through an ordinary USB cable.

When is the extra cost worthwhile?

Write down the two devices you actually use with the mouse. If one needs Bluetooth, the extra feature has a clear purpose. If you only use one gaming PC's USB receiver, focus instead on current price and hand fit.

Three checks before buying

  1. Check the included USB receiver and a free port on your computer.
  2. Confirm whether you really need Bluetooth.
  3. Try the shape or compare it with your current mouse.

Frequently asked questions

Is a higher DPI automatically better?

No. The sensitivity range alone does not tell you about fit, latency or feel.
