Protection is a good reason to choose the Shield if your environment genuinely needs it. For normal desk use, price, capacity and size may matter more.

IP65 does not mean submersible
The Shield's IP65 rating refers to the manufacturer's specified dust and water-jet tests. It is not permission to submerge the drive or store it wet. Read the manual's limitations before outdoor use.
A protective casing does not protect against everything
A cable coming loose during a write, losing the drive and accidentally deleting a file are different risks from splashes. The protection rating does not address them. Keep the cable and connector clean and the drive dry.
Compare the same capacity
Equivalent 1 TB and 2 TB models may look almost identical in the basket. Check the name, capacity and delivery charges. Do not pay for protection solely because it sounds reassuring: identify a situation where you would need it.
Three checks before buying
- Check the precise T7 or T7 Shield model.
- Read the IP65 limitations in the manual.
- Keep a second copy of important files.
